#Hollyweird @treytylor for @thefacemagazine Michael Caine was at home in 1971, watching TV, when he spotted a Guyanese beauty on screen. The woman, Shakira Baksh, would eventually become his wife. ⠀ “This commercial came on for Maxwell House coffee. And there was this beautiful Brazilian girl,” he told Andrew Denton's Interview in 2019. The 38-year-old actor, who was famous at the time from appearing in films like The Italian Job, “fell in love instantly.” He was so gobsmacked by her look, he decided then and there that he would fly to wherever she lived to meet her. “I said to my mate, ‘We're going to Brazil tomorrow – I have plenty of money, we're going to find her.’” Caine went down to the pub with his friend and ran into a man who questioned the pair, “No girls, what’s going on?” Caine explained to Jonathan Ross in 2018. ⠀ “Well, I saw a beautiful girl on the television and I’m going to Brazil in the morning to find her,” he replied. As it happened, the man he was speaking to had worked on that Maxwell House commercial. What Caine didn’t realise was that the ad was filmed in Britain, not Brazil, and Shakira lived nearby. “He said "We made that commercial – she's not in Brazil, she's on the Fulham Road,’ which is about a mile away from me.” Link in bio.

#Hollyweird @treytylor for @thefacemagazine Richard Gere had to have a gerbil surgically removed from his rectum while shooting An Officer and a Gentlemen in 1982. This is one of Hollywood’s longest-running urban legends, and has plagued Gere for most of his career. It was alluded to in the 1996 film Scream, when Rose McGowan’s character says, “Well, I mean you can only hear that Richard Gere gerbil story so many times that you have to start believing it.” However, the Gere-gerbil-rectum story is unequivocally false. At the time of the rumor’s initial spread, Gere was actually in India – not LA’s Cedars-Sinai hospital, as was first thought. The story goes that he had to be admitted to the ER because of rectal bleeding and intestinal discomfort. Doctors found and removed a gerbil from his anus, which was the result of Gere’s fetish for “gerbiling” – a phony sexual practice that brings pleasure. The rumor followed him for awhile, but reared its head at the height of Gere’s fame, after the release of Pretty Woman in 1990. Full article in bio.

#Hollyweird @treytylor for @thefacemagazine “I didn't recognize Jack as a world-class philanderer at the time,” the actress Anjelica Huston, who dated Jack Nicholson off-and-on from 1973 to 1989, wrote in her 2013 memoir Watch Me. “For as prolific as he seems to have been, and as I have heard reported, he was actually quite discreet.” Their relationship, which was fraught with Nicholson’s dalliances with other women, came to a flash-bang end in ’89. Nicholson invited Huston to dinner at his home to tell her that he had gotten Rebecca Broussard, an actress 12 years Huston’s junior, pregnant. “I was really nice about it,” Huston recalled to Vulture in 2019 of receiving the news. “I remember we had a hug, and I maybe had a little cry, but by the time I got home, I was really furious.” Feeling jilted, Huston told Nicholson, “There’s only room for one of us women in the picture, and I am going to retire from it.” Link in bio.
